The Gus is a displacement-hull creek boat designed by Johnnie Kern, positioned as a larger, faster creeker suited for big water, big drops, and big feet. It combines the maneuverability of shorter creek boats with a nod to the longer, speedier designs of an earlier era. Notable design features include resurfacing contours that channel water across the bow for smooth flat resurfacing, "The Groove" for increased maneuverability and edge acceleration, a reinforced bow, a Cargo-Load seat for easy gear access, and a roomy cockpit accommodating larger paddlers. It's a displacement hull (not planing), which gives it good speed and predictability in big water but makes it less playful than modern planing-hull creekers. Paddlers who've run it alongside more modern designs note it's fast, agile, stable, and sheds water exceptionally well — making for strong resurfacing and hole-punching. The Gus is a discontinued model. The model has had heavy use. Price reflects this.
