The Northern headwaters of the Saranac River drainage consist of a variety of wandering flows, small ponds, and large lakes. More suited to day paddling, but still offering multi-day paddling options, this area's diversity is great.

The Northern headwaters of the Saranac River drainage consist of a variety of wandering flows, small ponds, and large lakes. More suited to day paddling, but still offering multi-day paddling options, this area's diversity is great. Osgood Pond can be accessed by hand-dug channels that are over 100 years old. It offers a beautiful flow on its northern shore and through its outlet connects to Jones Pond for a great day paddle.

Rainbow Lake is a large lake divided by a glacial esker that parallels the length of its waters. It also has a flow on its northern shore, as well as many islands and interrupted shoreline. The Rainbow Lake Narrows connect paddlers to Lake Kushaqua, the North Branch of the Saranac River, and Buck Pond. This area is a great destination for those looking for a car to car paddling trip or an extended trip into the Saint Regis Canoe Area.
